Mr I L Ariyasena, the founder Treasure of Rahula College OBA, Association of Sri Lankan Professionals in the UK and Vision Lanka UK, passed away on 17 12 08 in Sri Lanka.
Mr Ariyasena, affectionately known as Ari among his friends and colleagues, was a genuine and well respected Sri Lankan, who was willing to help Sri Lankan organisations. As the Treasurer of Charity Organisation- Vision Lanka, he controlled and managed the charity money with transparent accountability to complete a housing project in Habaraduwa for Tsunami victims within the scheduled time and planned budget, and meeting the Vision Lanka’s main objective, with no management fees.
Ari was born in Lenama, Akuressa in Sri Lanka and educated at Rahula College, Matara. At School, he was a perfect Prefect. Ari completed his studies at Rahula College and entered Peradeniya University, where he held the position of Chairman of the Society of James Pieris Hall. After completing his first degree, he became a Lecturer in the University.
He was a Partner at Ford Rhodes Thornton & Co (Now KPMG) in Colombo for ten years.
Ari came to the UK in 1967, with his enthusiasm and professionalism he climbed up to the top of the profession. He was a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales and a Member of the Institute of Taxation.
Ari took the retirement and went to Sri Lanka in December 2008 to spend his retirement life with his wife. Before he went to Sri Lanka, he sent an e- mail to all his friends and colleagues informing ‘Ari going home’
Two weeks after going to Sri Lanka, Ari suddenly passed away.
The Sri Lankan community in the UK lost a genuine and honourable friend. And Ari’s family lost a wonderful husband and a loving Dad.
